This book discusses the impact of the May Fourth Movement and the New Culture Movement on different Chinese religious movements, as well as how members of religious groups perceived May Fourth and attempted to adapt, adjust, and evolve. Apart from the Introduction, the book features a total of 18 chapters that explore the ways in which May Fourth shaped the modern histories of Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, sectarian associations, Catholicism, Protestantism, Chinese Islam, etc., while also considering the religious worldviews that modern intellectuals embraced.
